Blessed with Fall Strawberries

I have never heard of fall strawberries. But none-the-less, I was thrilled to find a farmer selling fall strawberries on the side of the road.

This year has been a bumper crop, at least for me personally. No, I don’t grow strawberries, but we happened to be in Texas during their strawberry season, then traveled through Arkansas when they were harvesting the red delicious beauties and blessed with last spring and early fall strawberries in Virginia!

I just love picking and processing any type of berries! Our first place to pick strawberries was at scenic Marburger Orchard in Fredericksburg, Texas.

Enroute to Austin, we found Sweet Berry Farm in Marble Falls, Texas. As you can see, they had a gully washer before we came but we were determined to pick our strawberries for making jam!

imageOn our way from Texas to Virginia we found Arkansas strawberries.

It had been quilt a while since we’ve had homemade ice cream (close to a decade) and during the late spring, I dusted the cobwebs off my machine and made a batch. Yum, yum!

Once a year, when the strawberries are in season, I make a scrumptius homemade pie.
