I am so excited about today’s blog post featuring the Blue Ridge Quilt Festival, the largest quilt festival in Southwest Virginia. Mary W. Kerr from Virginia

“Baby Blue Too” by Mary W. Kerr. She used leftover scraps from Baby Blue to create this small wall hanging. The vintage romper is accented with buttons from her Grandmother’s collections and parts of a small porcelain doll that was found at the family home in Wilsey, Kansas. This quilt was part of a special QPN exhibition at the New Jersey State Quilt Convention in June 2007.

Mary Kerr, a AQS certified appraiser, will be appraising quilts.

Special Exhibits:

Textile Artist of Virginia will present “Tales from a Mayan Huipil“. Art quilts inspired by Guatemalan weaving.

“Dare to Dance: An Artist’s Interpretation of Joy….” Where more than 55 artists were asked to create an 18 x 30 inch art quilt by Mary Kerr, resulting in a book published by Schiffer Publishing.

Quilt Documentation and Discovery Day will be sponsored by Virginia Consortium of Quilters, Paula Golden and Blue Ridge Quilt Festival on Saturday, July 12, from 9:30AM – 4:30PM. Virginia Consortium of Quilters is documenting new and old quilts made in Virginia before the year 2000. Click here for more information.

There will be a memorial exhibit for Barbara Southern.

  She was a talented quilter, active guild member and huge supporter of the BRQF and put many volunteer hours in it.

She suddenly passed away this spring and we will showcase her with a selection of her quilts. A Flower Garden Quilt was draped over her casket at the funeral.

You will not want to miss this awesome quilt show in the breathtaking Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia!
